Racehorses and Bins: A very levelling combination, with a deeper lesson.

JIMGPT: Needs a new name but we’re looking for testers!

Thought of the Week:

AI  x  Adaptive Intelligence will transform your industry in the next three years.

What happens when an AI powered engagement platform meets your revenue team? A fantastic event in London this week with Salesloft.

AI²

Without radically improving our other AI, our Adaptive Intelligence, we have a unique opportunity to become economically irrelevant in the coming five years.

All those tired excuses: ‘change is tough’ ‘change is slow’ ‘change is resisted’ ‘XX% of changes fail’; all just a P.S. on a farewell note. The organisation using the power of AI², Artificial Intelligence x Adaptive Intelligence will ensure that.

Sure, change is hard. So is math. That is why serious people study how to do math, just as serious people study how to do change.

Adaptive Intelligence is an acquirable skill. Leading others to adapt fast is an acquirable skill. Crafting and broadcasting your urgent and uplifting change story that inspires the transformation across your organisation? A critical change task that needs to be prioritised.

Is the invitation to become irrelevant an inconvenient truth? Something politicians and trades unions should protect us from? Or is it the greatest opportunity of the Twenty First century?

I guess that all depends on you!

One thing is for sure, we all need a position. This is happening now.

So what’s your play?

NB. My role is to support leaders and organisations to navigate the world as it is presented to them. Opining on the morality of AI does not support that role.

Racehorses And Bins.

Once a week in the UK we all come out into the street wheeling our bins behind us. We nod at each other and go back inside our homes.

This ritual is called ‘Bin day’. Bin day is not meant to be an adrenaline sport.

But if you are riding a racehorse early in the morning: it’s a white knuckle rodeo ride.

Horses are scared of bins they warned me. Well ‘how dumb to be scared of a bin’, I thought.

It turns out horses are not scared of bins. Horses are scared of changes in their environment. The bin was not there yesterday.

Evolution has taught them to fear change. That grass is flat this morning. Last evening it was not: those who ran away fast without thinking got to breed. Those who were curious got to be digested.

That ‘wiring’ is a biochemical response linked to a pattern recognition device. Sitting dazed on the road beside a bin after the horse’s chemicals were stronger than the jockey gives you some time to reflect on this.

You are a pattern recognition device wired to a powerful biochemical defence system – and so are your people.

Unlike the horse, you developed intelligence. You and I can learn to choose when to override the emotion and be curious. Why would we want to do that? Because during rapid change and innovation, that serves us better than running away from the disturbed pattern.

This is Adaptability Intelligence 101.

If you want your people to learn these skills, or you need to lead many ‘pattern recognition devices’ through transformation. Hit reply and let’s talk.

JimGPT

JimGPT, a well-trained AI me providing high-quality coaching, is already in testing.

He has fast become my first port of call when I need coaching, clarification and advice. The good news there is that his job will be to support you to use DARE to enhance your Adaptability Intelligence.

He’ll be ready for testing outside of our team soon. Do you fancy trying him out for free?

And can you PLEASE think of a better name!?

Book Of The Week.

This week I am turning to a historian turned futurist who presents a thesis on AI and us: Yuval Noah Harari and the book 21 Lessons for the 21st Century.

If you want to understand precisely why you have the opportunity to become irrelevant – and why understanding your ‘anxiety’ and overriding your biochemistry is so very important to keeping up – just the first 150 pages of the book will give you that in a very digestible format.

Don’t be alarmed by it.

Decide on your play: DARE. A new Result requires new Decisions and Actions.

My Week.

I had a fantastic week with visionary leaders and their courageous people leading change in their industries and making a difference.

I began in London at the intersection of sales and AI with Salesloft and their clients. I even got to meet friends from previous projects including with the London Stock Exchange. A fabulous day and I learned a lot.

To Eindhoven in The Netherlands. I love logistics. Always have, Can’t explain it. I once had a tour of Primark’s central UK warehouse and still haven’t recovered.

Vanderlande are absolutely best in class. Bringing DARE to support this wonderful global leadership team in their transformation and post-merger integration was an absolute joy. Thank you for your wonderful reception.

Finally to Athens and a confidential engagement with a pharmaceutical company bringing a brand new, game changing product to a disease that has proved consistently difficult to treat and to patients who suffer terribly. I wish you all power and every success with your important work as you head back out across the world to your markets.

A major new INSPIRE! – Leading Adaptability and High Performance program begins within a rapidly scaling European Unicorn on June 23. We are preparing the final materials to help their team leaders build high performing teams. That fun and creative jigsaw accounted for the rest of my time.

I wish you a wonderful week ahead.
